MANILA – Iloilo Kisela Knight scored eight wins in the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) GM Wesley So Cup by having two more wins on Saturday night.
The Kisela Knights opened the double-header with 20-1 domination over the Palawan Queen’s Gambit and followed it up with a 14.5-6.5 triumph over the Mindoro Tamaraws.
Iloilo mauled Palawan in blitz behind Hovhannes Gabuzyan, Karl Viktor Ochoa, Jr., Cherry Ann Mejia, Cesar Mariano, Dennis Bernas, John Michael Silvederio, and Fritz Bryan Porras.
In the rapid event, the Kisela Knights trounced the Queen’s Gambit behind wins by Gabuzyan, Joey Antonio, Jr., Mariano, Bernas, Silvederio, and Porras, and a draw from Mejia.
In the blitz play, Iloilo ousted Mindoro on victories by Gio Mejia, Cesar Mariano, Porras, Silvederio, and Mark Jossel Mariano. Gabuzyan settled for a draw.
The Tamaraws also bowed down to the Kisela Knights in the rapid play.
On the other hand, the Negros Kingsmen beat Iriga City Oragons, 15-6, and stunned Cordova Dutchess Dagami Warriors even with the absence of import Steven Breckenridge.
The Kingsmen won the blitz over the Oragons on victories by Nelson Mariano III, Randy Segarra, Kajoy Acedo, Jason Bandal Jr., Joel Pimentel, and Rolzon Roullo.
Negros also walloped Iriga City in the rapid event on wins by Mariano, Segarra, Acedo, and Bandal Jr., and a draw from Roullo.
Against the Dagami Warriors, the Kingsmen nabbed victories in the blitz and rapid events./PN
