Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, IPHO head, said the trend in recorded dengue cases is slowly declining; 44 cases were recorded within morbidity week 36 (Sept. 4 to 10) compared to 78 cases within morbidity week 35 (Aug. 28 to Sept. 4).

“May 20 na kita nga patay sa dengue although may good news kita kay padayun nga naganubo ang kaso naton,” said Quiñon.

She lauded the residents of the 42 towns and one component city and all 1,721 barangays in the province for cleaning their surroundings to prevent dengue.

The IPHO head emphasized, however, that for this decline in trend to continue, efforts must continue as well, especially in implementing the 5S Strategy against dengue: Search and destroy mosquito-breeding sites; employ Self-protection measures; Seek early consultation; Support fogging/spraying only in hot spot areas; and practice Safety and health protocols./PN
