ILOILO – Dengue cases were recorded in 37 towns and Passi City.
From Jan. 1 to March 11, the province listed 293 cases – 199 percent higher compared to 98 cases with five deaths logged in the same period last year.
Data from the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) showed the top 10 local government units (LGUs) with the highest cases were Barotac Nuevo (24), Estancia (20), Banate (18), Alimodian (16), Pototan (13), Sara (11), Cabatuan (11), Passi City (11), Ajuy (11), and Calinog (11).
The remaining cases were recorded in Lemery, Balasan, Dumangas, and Oton with 10 cases each; Carles and San Dionisio (nine cases each); Barotac Viejo and Pavia (eight cases each); San Joaquin, San Miguel, Dueñas, and San Enrique (six cases each); Batad, Miag-ao and Concepcion (five cases each); Tigbauan, Janiuay and Dingle (four cases each); Leganes, Badiangan, Anilao, Santa Barbara, and Zarraga (three cases each); Guimbal and Igbaras (two cases each); and Lambunao, Bingawan and Leon (one case each).
Only five towns have no dengue cases: Maasin, Mina, New Lucena, San Rafael, and Tubungan.
IPHO head, Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, said the most affected age group is one to 10 years old, with 161 cases.
Here is the breakdown of cases per age group:
* Less than one year old – 10 cases
* one to 10 years old – 161 cases
* 11 to 20 years old – 65 cases
* 21 to 30 years old – 30 cases
* 31 to 40 years old – nine cases
* 41 years and above – 18 cases
The IPHO continues its campaign, together with the LGUs, barangay officials, and the community, in implementing the 4S strategy against dengue: search and destroy mosquito breeding sites, employ self-protection measures, seek early consultation, and support fogging/spraying only in hotspot areas.
“Kinahanglan nga ipadayun naton ang pagpaninlu sa aton palibot, especially ang pagpangita sang breeding sites sang lamok,” said Colmenares-Quiñon.
Also, the Iloilo provincial government continues to distribute to LGUs adulticides, larvicides, dengue test kits, intravenous fluids, and drugs and medicines such as paracetamol and oral rehydration for dengue patients./PN
