Iloilo logs all-time high single COVID deaths

ILOILO – The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) death toll in this province hasn’t slowed.

It recorded the highest number of casualties (since the onset of the pandemic) on Monday at 18.  

The additional deaths were as follows:

* 67-year-old male from Alimodian

* 85-year-old female from Barotac Nuevo

* 78-year-old female from Batad

* 68-year-old female from Dingle

* 63-year-old female from Dumangas

* 50-year-old female from Estancia

* 76-year-old female from Janiuay

* 64-year-old male from Lambunao

* 49-year-old female from Leganes

* 71-year-old male from Maasin

* 53-year-old female from Maasin

* 57-year-old male from Miag-ao

* 62-year-old male from New Lucena

* 52-year-old male from Pavia

*62-year-old female from Pavia

* 80-year-old female from Pototan

* 48-year-old female from San Enrique

* 71-year-old male from Mina

As of Sept. 27, Iloilo registered 770 deaths, of which 348 had no comorbidities.

Ten local government units (LGUs) had the highest recorded deaths: Oton (66), Pavia (56), Passi City (41), Pototan (34), Santa Barbara (33), Dumangas (31), Tigbauan (31), Miag-ao (30), Barotac Nuevo (29), and Leganes (29).

Here’s the number of deaths of other LGUs: Banate (26), Cabatuan (22), San Miguel (22), Alimodian (22), Guimbal (22), Lambunao (20), San Joaquin (19), Estancia (18), Janiuay (18), Maasin (16), Leon (15), Carles (12), Calinog (12), Dinge (12), San Enrique (11), Sara (11), New Lucena (11), Ajuy (10), Badiangan (10), Batad (10), Barotac Viejo (10), Zarraga (nine), Igbaras (seven), Balasan (seven), Concepcion (seven), Anilao (six), Mina(six), Dueñas (five), Lemery (four), Tubugan (four), Bingawan (three), San Rafael (two), and San Dionisio (one).

Total confirmed COVID cases in the province reached 31,678 – 5,373 active, 25,535 recovered and 770 deaths.

The 10 LGUs with the highest active cases were Pavia (299), Barotac Nuevo (293), Passi City (280), Pototan (274), Sara (261), Santa Barbara (218), Janiuay (217), Cabatuan (204), Tigbauan (172), and Guimbal (172).

Dr. Maria Socorro-Colmenares Quiñon, head of the Provincial Health Office (PHO), said a rise in COVID deaths is expected in the next days.

“May ginahulat pa ‘ta nga pending death certificates, 223 pa,” said Quiñon.

Based on PHO’s monitoring, the age group with the highest mortality was 61 years old and above, followed by 50 to 60 years old.

“Isa gid sa aton gina-campaign nga magpa-vaccine sila para ma-protect man sila sa virus,” Quiñon said.

Iloilo targets to inoculate 232,027 senior citizens.

However, roughly 21 percent or 48,571 completed their vaccination./PN
