Iloilo measles-rubella vaxx drive extended; 95 percent target not yet reached

ILOILO – The Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) is urging parents of children aged zero to five years old to get them vaccinated against measles-rubella and polio.

The province was among those yet to achieve a 95 percent vaccination accomplishment rate.

In line with this, Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Enrique A. Tayag issued an order on May 30 to regional offices with the subject: “Extension of the Measles, Rubella and bivalent Oral Poliovirus Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR bOPV SIA) in selected provinces and cities until June 15, 2023.”

“Gin-extend ini asta sa June 15 kay wala naton nalab-ot ang target nga 95 percent for Region 6. Ang province unfortunately wala pa man kalab-ot and wala man sang province sa region nga nakalab-ot so far,” said Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon, IPHO head.

As of May 30, only 137,171 or 84.90 percent were vaccinated for measles-rubella of the 161,566 target children.

“May ara kita sang 16,316 pa ka mga kabataan nga ginapangita para malab-ot ang 95 percent coverage,” added Quiñon.

Despite the province not achieving its vaccination accomplishment target, several local government units (LGUs) have been successful. These were the towns of Sara (4,721 or 107.52 percent), Batad (1,882 or 106.03 percent), Lemery (2,631 or 102.25 percent), Santa Barbara (5,109 or 101.81 percent), Mina (1,981 or 100.81 percent), Tigbauan (5,124 or 97.88 percent), Miag-ao (5,508 or 97.66 percent), San Enrique (2,747 or 97.07 percent), Barotac Viejo (3,705 or 96.91 percent), Dingle (3,653 or 96.64 percent), Leganes (2,596 or 95.79 percent), Guimbal (2,704 or 95.78 percent), Tubungan (1,787 or 95.41 percent), Concepcion (3,430 or 95.22 percent), and San Dionisio (3,074 or 95.05 percent).
