Iloilo MVP jins shine in nat’l taekwondo tilt

MANILA – Iloilo MVP Taekwondo Gym had a dominant showing in the 2023 National New face of the Year Philippine Taekwondo Championships over the weekend at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Malate, Manila.

The taekwondo jins of head coach Denmark Pinggol took home 13 medals in kyorugi/sparring—six golds, two silvers and five bronzes—and seven medals in poomsae—five golds, one silver and a bronze.

Iloilo MVP jins captured three kyorugi/sparring golds in the gradeschool category courtesy of Adenny Lourl Rivera (Girls Novice 2), Jin Saimon Saquilon (Boys Novice 1) and Joel Alexander Cana (Boys Novice 1).

Two other golds were in the toddler category from Kylie Ellise Olivares in Girls Novice 1 and Duncan Kyle Rivera in Boys Novice 1, while the other gold is from Kim Xian Jude Arceña in Cadet Boys Novice 1.

Taking home silver medals for the Pinggol-mentored crew were Alleinna Nestley Gajasan in the Gradeschool Girls Novice 1 and Eujean Ivanka Castete in the Cadet Female Advance.

Bronze medal winners were Khent Wharlie Donguila (Gradeschool Boys Novice 2), Cirila Johanne Sulatra (Gradeschool Girls Novice 1), Julia Hermosa Ilustre (Gradeschool Girls Novice 1) and Joannah Donguila (Cadet Female Novice 2).

Jannah Ysabel Velez, a former member of Iloilo MVP Taekwondo Gym and now part of the San Beda University squad, also captured a bronze medal in the Senior Female Division.

In poomsae, gold medal winners were Adenny Lourl Rivera (Gradeschool Girls Novice 2), Jin Saimon Saquilon (Gradeschool Boys Novice 1), Rhyden Uri Figueroa (Gradeschool Boys Novice 1), Maczen Rea (Junior Female Novice 1) and Julia Hermosa Ilustre (Gradeschool Female Novice 1).

Lindsy Lorraine Degayo, meanwhile, settled for a silver medal finish in the Junior Female Advance, while Merial An Detablan ended with a bronze medal in the GS Toddler Girls Novice 1.

Meanwhile, other members of the gym that participated in the tournament were Alexander Niccolo Gajasan, Red Dyron Lusaya, Sophia Marie Bautista and Adrian Joseph Gajasan III./PN
