MANILA â Another Ilonggo cager is set to take his talent to the big league as forward Ronrei Tolentino was called to join the UAAP juniors basketball champion Far Eastern University-Diliman Baby Tamaraws.
The 6-foot-2 Tolentino caught the eye of the Baby Tamarawsâ coaching staff following his impressive performance with the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) basketball team in the 2017 Palarong Pambansa in San Jose, Antique.
âActually isa siya sa mga players ko na tinatanong ng mga scouts kung available kasi he is playing the forward position and may shooting pa,â said WVRAA head coach Rodel Camacho.
Tolentino was a key player in WVRAAâs quest in the Palaro, along with fellow Manila-bound Ryan Calama-an, who will join the National University Bullpups, for a runner-up finish in secondary boysâ basketball.
Chone Lagman, Tolentinoâs head coach at the Iloilo National High School, was not surprised that his player caught the eye of the Baby Tamaraws with the young cagerâs talent and determination to improve his skills.
âRonrei is a very talented player,â Lagman told Panay News. âBut, despite that, he is still working hard at our practices. What I like about him is he is not content on what he already has, he tries to add more to become a better player.â
âSo as his coach, I am proud that he was called up by the FEU,â he added. âI am happy that all the hardwork he has been putting up on our practices has finally paid off. He also brings a great honor to our school which we call Nasyo Pride.â
Tolentino is expected to make immediate impact for the Allan Albano-mentored Baby Tamaraws where he will play alongside veterans LJ Gonzales, RJ Abarrientos and Jack Gloria./PN
