ILOILO City – The slow internet connection and the need to install more closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras are two of the major concerns that need to be looked into as the city government prepares to host four meetings of the 2017 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit.

Junel Ann Divinagracia, executive director of the 2017 Asean Organizing Committee in Iloilo City, said these were already pointed out after the city also hosted several meetings of the 2015 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit.

Reliable and fast internet connection and the CCTV cameras are necessary for security purposes, stressed Divinagracia.

Initially, Divinagracia was informed that this city will host two ministerial and two senior officials meeting. However, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will be holding a side meeting with some 750 delegates.

Divinagracia said Iloilo City is ready with the experience it had hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in 2015.

She said they will just have to train more personnel and revive the Spouses Program. Thirty spouses of participating Asean ministers have already confirmed to arrive during the meetings.

Among those that the 2017 Asean Organizing Committee in Iloilo City needs to look into are the cuisines and destinations to be afforded to the delegates.

“The preparations are ongoing,” said Divinagracia. (PNA)
