MANILA – Iloilo Kisela Knights and Negros Kingsmen extended their winning run in the 2022 Professional Chess Association of the Philippines Third Conference with a pair of wins on Saturday evening.
The Kisela Knights opened the evening with a 17.5-3.5 beating of Rizal Batch Towers before following it up with a 15.5-5.5 beating of Quezon City Simba’s Tribe. The Ilonggos now have a 14-2 slate.
The Kisela Knights barely escaped the Batch Towers in blitz event, 4.5-2.5, with full points by Giovanni Mejia (Board 1), Karl Victor Ochoa (Board 2), Cesar Mariano (Board 4) and Fritz Bryan Porras (Board 6) and a half point by Rolly Parondo Jr. (Board 5).
The Ilonggos, however, dominated Rizal in the rapid game, 13-1, on full two points by Ochoa, Fiona Geeneweth Guirhem (Board 3), Mariano, Parondo, Porras and John Michael Silvederio (Board 7) and a split by Mejia.
The Kisela Knights also edged the Simba’s Tribe in blitz game, 5.5-1.5, with one point each by Parondo (Board 1), Ochoa (Board 2), Cherry Ann Mejia (Board 3), Mariano (Board 4) and Porras (Board 5) and a split by Silvederio (Board 6).
The Ilonggos also prevailed over Quezon City in rapid event, 10-4, with Parondo, Mejia, Mariano and Porras netting two points apiece, while Ochoa and Silvederio had a point each.
The Kingsmen, on the other hand, opened their double header with a 21-0 shutout win over Mindoro Tamaraws followed by a 19-2 rout of the Batch Towers. The Negrenses has 15-3 slate in the Southern Division.
Joel Pimentel (Board 1), Edsel Montoya (Board 2), Bernadette Galas (Board 3), Alfredo Dumalag (Board 4), Ellan Asuela (Board 5), Ted Ian Montoyo (Board 6) and Rolzon Roullo (Board 7) all won their blitz and rapid game matches against the Tamaraws.
Kingsmen’s Pimentel (Board 1), Bryle Arellano (Board 2), Galas (Board 3), Edmundo Gatus (Board 4), Asuela (Board 5), Montoyo (Board 6) and Edsel Montoya (Board 7) all won their blitz game against the Batch Towers.
Save for Montoya, the Negrenses got two points apiece from Pimentel, Arellano, Galas, Gatus, Asuela, Montoyo and Montoya in their rapid game against the Batch Towers./PN
