Iloilo players lead Pavia age-group chess winners

ILONGGO chess players dominated the 2018 Rated Age-Group Chess Tournament by ruling three out of the four categories at Robinsons Place mall in Pavia, Iloilo.

Lanz Vincent Vencer ruled the Under-19 category with Kris Oswald Olvido finishing runner-up followed by Fiona Geeweneth Guirhem, Catherine Furton and Joshua Lawrence Tanate.

Another Ilonggo topped the Under-14 category – Neilstin Sting Gallenero. He was followed by Ysabella Beatrice Catinan, Kurt Kevin Ladot, Kith Haniel Magoliman, and Kimberly Colaste.

The Aug. 21 chess event was organized by the Iloilo Players Chess Association Foundation.

Fritz Bryan Porras of Iloilo City ruled the chess 960/fischer random chess category with Dennis Bernas and John Franz de Asis finishing on second and third places, respectively.

Mark Alfonso Azaola of Capiz broke the imminent sweep by Ilonggo players by topping the Under-10 category.

Finishing behind him are Andre Aldamar, Jecuambs Cuambot, Timothy Alfin, and Vaughn Robert Oberio.

Champion players from each category took home the top cash prize of P2,000 with second, third, fourth, and fifth placers getting P1,500, P1,000, P500, and P250, respectively./PN
