Iloilo province’s March COVID cases highest so far

ILOILO – This province has just logged its highest number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections in a month since the pandemic started in March last year.

From March 1 to 28 this year, the province recorded 827 cases, data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed.

Iloilo also recorded numerous infections in October last (804), February 2021 (798) and January 2021 (645).   

Also, this month tallied the most number of average daily cases of COVID-19 at 30 cases.

In February, the daily average was 29 and in January it was 21.

As of this writing, Iloilo province had 5,350 total (cumulative) confirmed coronavirus cases – 604 were active, 4,602 (86 percent) recovered and 144 (2.7 percent) deaths.

PHO data also revealed that 4,340 or 81 percent were local cases. Some 680 were locally stranded individuals; 258 were returning overseas Filipinos; and 53 were authorized persons outside residence.

Coronavirus has sickened persons mostly at age 21 to 30 years old with 1,410 cases. This was followed by persons aged 31 to 40 with 1,132, and the elderly with 648 cases.  

As to the COVID situation among local government units (LGUs), the towns with the most number of cumulative cases were Passi City (683); Oton (440); Pavia (381); Miag-ao (220); Barotac Viejo (203); San Joaquin (194); Santa Barbara (187); Guimbal (179); Banate (162); and San Enrique (154).

Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. continues to remind Ilonggos to avoid public gatherings, especially this Holy Week, to stem the spread of COVID-19.

“Amo man gihapon ang ginhalinan kon tan-awon mo ang contact tracing – public gatherings. Sundon ta gid ang minimum public health standards,” said Defensor./PN
