ILOILO – The real property tax (RPT) collection of this province increased by P152,599,533.97 this year.
Based on the record of the Provincial Treasurer’s Office (PTO) as of October 2018, the province’s RPT collection is now at P469,657,490.57, higher than the P317,057,956.60 collected in the same period last year.
Acting provincial treasurer Jean Maire Umadhay attributed the increase to the re-establishment of their strong partnership with the grassroots, through the launching of HUBLAG (Hulag Barangay), or a search for the best performing barangay in the collection of real property taxes.
“Our barangay tax campaigns, massive distribution of notices and tax bills are just among our various filed activities that are now making an impact to our collection efficiency,” Umadhay said during the culminating ceremony of the Real Property Tax Consciousness Month on Nov. 29 at the provincial capitol lobby.
During the ceremony, the PTO also honored the men and women of the treasury and assessment services and other stakeholders.
They also recognized the Top 10 finalists for the Real Property Tax Infomercial Making Contest participated by junior and senior high students from public schools in the province
The top three winners received P15,000; P12,000 for the second placer; and P10,000 for the third placer.
The seven finalists received a consolation prize of P5,000 each. (Louine Hope Conserva, Capitol News/PN)
