ILOILO – The Iloilo provincial government is putting farmers and fisherfolk at the forefront of its food security and agricultural resilience campaign as it prepares a weeklong series of activities highlighting their crucial role in feeding communities and sustaining the province’s rural economy.
The Provincial Agriculture Office (PAgrO) will spearhead Farmers and Fisherfolk’s Week from October 1 to 7, bringing together agricultural and fisheries stakeholders to showcase their skills, innovations and practices while strengthening their capacity to cope with challenges confronting their livelihoods.
The celebration carries the theme, “Mangunguma kag Mangingisda: Mangin Mapag-on, Alerto sa Pagpanghangkat sang Panahon, Palangabuhi-an Pauswagon.”
“A week-long celebration awaits, featuring activities that recognize the hard work, resilience, and vital contribution of Iloilo’s farmers and fisherfolk to food security and sustainable development,” PAgrO said.
The activities will open on October 1 with a program at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol lobby, a Boodle Fight Table Presentation Contest at the Capitol façade, and Agricultural Biosystem Engineering Day.
On October 2, participants will undergo Basic Barista Skills and Café Hygiene activities at the Capitol lobby.
The celebration resumes on October 5 with the Rural Improvement Club Achievement Day at the Capitol lobby and “Fish IT Forward: Fisheries Innovation Forum” at Casa Real.
Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Extension activities will be held in Badiangan town on October 6.
The weeklong celebration will culminate on October 7 with a parade featuring floats, muses and a street dance contest, followed by an awarding program and a lecture on the Wagyu Program.
PAgrO invited Iloilo’s farmers and fisherfolk, together with their families, to participate in the activities.
The celebration is intended not only to recognize the contribution of the province’s food producers but also to provide opportunities for them to share innovations and strengthen the agriculture and fisheries sectors amid changing weather conditions and livelihood challenges./PN
