ILOILO – Between July 26 and July 29, this province recorded 41 deaths due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Passi City had the highest logged fatalities at five followed by Santa Barbara with four.
Other areas include Tigbauan and Leon with three each; Miag-ao, Dumangas, Oton, Dingle, Pavia, Banate, Guimbal, Pototan, and Leganes with two each; and Cabatuan, San Miguel, Lambunao, Igbaras, Anilao, Barotac Nuevo, Lemery, and Estancia with one each.
As of July 29, records of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed that the province’s COVID deaths stood at 428, of which 241 had comorbidities.
The local government unit (LGUs) with the highest total coronavirus deaths were Pavia – 34, Oton – 32, Santa Barbara – 25, Barotac Nuevo – 23, Pototan – 19, Passi City – 19, Leganes – 18, Banate – 18, Tigbauan – 17, and Miag-ao – 16.
Meanwhile, the age groups with most deaths were:
* 61 years old and above – 262;
* 51 to 60 years old – 92;
* 41 to 50 years old – 39;
* 31 to 40 years old – 21;
* 21 to 30 years old – 12;
* 11 to 20 years old – one; and
* one to 10 years old – two.
“Please cooperate. Protect yourself and your loved ones, especially our elderly. Get vaccinated now and continue to practice 3Ms (Magmaskara, Manghinaw, Magdistansya),” said Dr. Ma Socorro Colmenares- Quiñon, acting PHO head.
She also advised the public, especially those who have symptoms, to immediately seek help from experts.
“Seek early treatment. Bisan diin nga hospital indi maka-ubra miracle kon malala na ang sitwasyon sang pasyente,” added Quiñon.
She also cited certain cases wherein patients had been unmindful of their symptoms.
“Gindala-dala nya lang ang ubo nya for days then suddenly indi na sia ka ginhawa. Gindala sa hospital, pero ulihi na,” said Quiñon.
She also encouraged the senior citizens and persons with comorbidities to avail themselves of the vaccine against COVID-19.
Economic frontliners should also practice reverse isolation to protect vulnerable family members at home.
Who are these vulnerable persons?
* senior citizens (60 year olds and above)
* pregnant women
* those with immunodeficiency, comorbidities, or other health risks
Minimum public health standards shall be observed such as wearing of facemasks, eating meals separately and using separate utensils.
Household members should wear facemask in the presence of vulnerable persons, or when in areas in the house used or accessed by such vulnerable persons.
Vulnerable persons shall also have separate utensils and take their meals separate from other members of the household.
Households with resident vulnerable persons are discouraged from receiving guests, among other precautions.
Reverse isolation also applies to residents who go out on a daily basis for work or other essential transactions and those who visit hospitals or healthcare facilities for outpatient treatment./PN
