Iloilo schools get water purifiers

ILOILO City – A Bangkok-based company has provided free water purifiers to schools in Iloilo province.

The distribution of water purifiers is part of the company’s “Water for Life” project, according to its global marketing specialist.

A tabletop machine, the water purifier produces alkaline water when attached to the faucet. The alkaline water neutralizes acid in the body, said Rowena Diaz. Each unit costs P25,000.

“Water for Life intends to educate people, especially public schools, about the importance of water for health and well-being,” she said.

The company already donated 10 water purifiers to the Department of Education – Division of Iloilo and the Iloilo Central Elementary School, and the local government units of Oton and Miagao, which will choose the school-beneficiaries.

Schools with big population are being prioritized, Diaz said.

In addition, the company conducts lectures on the benefits of alkaline water and proper hygiene and sanitation.

Prior to Water for Life, AD Nano Company Ltd., which manufactures food and cosmetics, also funded a garden project in Iloilo City National High School in 2015.

The P2.3-million water catchment project gathers rainwater that used to cause flooding in the school campus. It was landscaped and turned into a garden.

The city government provided a counterpart by building a drainage that connects the catchment to the Iloilo River where the water drains. (PNA)
