ILOILO City – The full opening to vehicular traffic of the Iloilo River North Bank Road, also known as the Sunset Boulevard, has been rescheduled to January 24, 2025.

Mayor Jerry Treñas said he met with Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional director Sanny Boy Oropel and Assistant Regional Director Al Fruto to finalize plans for the much-anticipated opening of the boulevard.

Originally set for a January 22 opening, the new date ensures all preparations are in place for a seamless launch.

The opening event will feature biking and tree planting activities, followed by a short ceremony attended by former senator Franklin Drilon, who played a key role in initiating the P2.261-billion project.

The Iloilo Sunset Boulevard is a landmark infrastructure development. Spanning five kilometers, the four-lane boulevard connects Barangay Tabucan in Mandurriao district to Barangay Cagbang in Oton, Iloilo.

Designed with sustainability in mind, it features bike lanes, solar-powered LED lights, flowering trees, viewing decks, and a picturesque walkway esplanade with concrete pavers.

Treñas stressed the benefits the new boulevard will bring to Iloilo City and nearby areas.

“Once open, the boulevard will not only ease traffic between Iloilo City and Oton but also serve as a recreational haven for residents and visitors,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to Senator Drilon for championing the project and to DPWH for their hard work in bringing it to life.

“This project reflects our dedication to sustainable development and improved connectivity. It’s a testament to what we can achieve through collaboration and vision,” Treñas added./PN
