ILOILO recovered from a poor first-half performance to score 82-68 against Negros Occidental in the secondary boys basketball finals of the 2018 WVRAA Meet on Wednesday at the Iloilo Sports Complex.
Mark Nonoy led the team with 24 points. Jesse Sullano added 18, while Reynold Tupas and Jean Raven Beliran had 14 and 10 points, respectively, for the Ilonggo squad.
It trailed by as much as 8 points in the first half but Iloilo regained control in the second half on hot shooting from Nonoy, Tupas and Sullano, and built a lead as high as 14 points.
âIâll give credit to my players, who fought very hard. I am very blessed with this group of players,â said Iloilo coach Vincent Conlu. âWe have now achieved our goal of making it to Palarong Pambansa.â
Also part of the Iloilo team were Victor Demadara, Paul Guerrero, Lee Jimera, JJ Gerochi, Carlo Paguntalan, Paolo Villariza, Richie Galvez, Victor Palileo, Lorenzo Yu, Jims Jimiera, and Jasper Antijendra.
Meanwhile, Negros Occidental captured the elementary boys basketball title after a 60-50 victory over last yearâs titleholder Iloilo.
Negros comprised Bacolod Tay Tung High School players John Ordas, Thomas Pillado, Toni Siglos, Rafael Ledesma, Deylan Despi, Joshua Dignadice, Johnray Castiller, and Marvin delos Santos.
Their teammates included Andrei Kaabay and Gabe Ortiz of University of St. La Salle, Tristan Adricula of University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, and Sander Bayona of Bacolod City.
Negros â Harold Alarcon, Alec Tan, Andy Villaver, and Christian Gamao â also claimed the title in the inaugural 3×3 basketball with a 21-11 win over Iloilo./PN
