ILOILO City – Love is really in the air this month with 18 civil mass weddings slated to take place across the city and province.
Out of the 18 weddings, 10 will be held today in time for the Valentine’s Day, said Provincial Statistics Authority (PSA)-Iloilo Civil Registration Officer II Jose Romulo Robles.
The Valentine’s Day weddings will take place in Iloilo City and in the towns of Oton, Pototan, Ajuy, Mina, Tigbauan, Balasan, Sta. Barbara, Janiuay, and San Rafael.
Robles said couples who have registered to join the mass wedding in the towns of Cabatuan, Leon, and Carles will tie the knot on Feb. 15, 20 and 27, respectively.
Those who registered in the municipalities of Concepcion, Bingawan, Estancia, and Guimbal will have their wedding ceremonies on Feb. 28.
Robles said the free mass weddings were part of the activities initiated by the local civil registrars in coordination with their respective local government units in celebration of the February Civil Registration Month pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 682 signed by then president Corazon Aquino on Feb. 28, 1991.
He said the month-long celebration promotes awareness on the importance of civil registration, a continuous, permanent and compulsory recording of vital events in the lives of every Filipino such as birth, marriage and death.
Robles cited that the civil mass wedding is an opportunity for couples to register their marriage and eventually make their children legitimate.
“Once the couple took part in the mass wedding, they could now file legitimation for their children by subsequent marriage and avoid complications later when they apply for school enrollment and baptism of their children,” said Robles. (PIA/PN)
