ILOILO TRANSPORT CONGRESS: Transport cooperatives urged to embrace change

ILOILO City – With the goal of equipping transport cooperatives to adapt to a rapidly evolving industry, the Iloilo Provincial Government, through its Provincial Cooperative Development Office (PCDO), is hosting the Iloilo Transport Cooperative Congress 2025 today, April 8, at Punta Villa Resort in Arevalo district.

Anchored on the theme “Navigating Change: Strengthening Transport Cooperatives for Stability and Innovation,” the congress seeks to strengthen the capacities of transport cooperatives by encouraging innovation, resilience, and long-term sustainability.

Hundreds of transport leaders, cooperative members, and key stakeholders from across the province are expected to attend.

A key topic in the congress is the future of public transportation in Iloilo, particularly the proposed Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP), which is currently awaiting approval from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

The LPTRP will serve as the foundation for modernizing routes and services across the province.

According to the PCDO, 99 percent of the province’s public utility jeepneys have already been consolidated under cooperatives in line with the national transport modernization program. Once the LPTRP is approved, cooperatives are expected to begin procuring mini-buses to replace traditional jeepneys.

Officials from the LTFRB are also slated to speak during the event, providing updates on national programs and the agency’s direction for the transport sector.

The congress is one of the highlights of Semana sang Iloilo 2025, the 124th founding anniversary celebration of the Iloilo provincial government, which runs from April 7 to 11. The week-long celebration features a mix of cultural, economic, and developmental activities:
