ILOILO City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has reshuffled its election officers in the municipalities of Iloilo and the component city of Passi.
Their new assignments were temporary, said Iloilo provincial election supervisor Atty. Roberto Salazar.
They would be returning to their original posts after the election period ends on June 13.
The revamp was effected on April 1.
“This aims to address possible biases brought about by the familiarity of election officers with the candidates in their original areas of assignment,” explained Salazar.
The midterm elections are on May 13.
No election officer questioned the reshuffling, said Salazar.
However, some expressed concern that their assignments were so far from where they live.
“They have to deal with the consequences of being in public service,” said Salazar.
Provincial election officers were first to be reshuffled last Dec. 28, 2018. They were the following:
* Atty. Elizabeth Doronila – from Iloilo to Aklan
* Atty. Roberto Salazar – from Antique to Iloilo
* Atty. Will Arsenio – from Capiz to Antique
* Atty. Jesse Suarez – from Negros Occidental to Capiz
* Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria – from Aklan to Guimaras
* Atty. Salud Milagros Villanueva – from Guimaras to Negros Occidental
On the other hand, the revamp of regional election directors was effected in February.
Comelec Region 6 is now temporarily headed by Atty. Jose Nick Mendros, the Comelec director of Region 8 (Eastern Visayas).
Mendros replaced Atty. Dennis Ausan who was temporarily made Comelec director of Region 7 (Central Visayas) covering the provinces of Bohol, Siquijor, Cebu, and Negros Oriental.
Temporarily replacing Medros as Comelec Region 8 director is Comelec Region 7 director Rafael Olaño./PN
