Iloilo’s No. 2 fugitive falls

TIGBAUAN, Iloilo – The No. 2 most wanted person in Iloilo Province was arrested in Barangay Bagumbayan here around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10.

The 51-year-old alias John, married and a resident of the town’s Barangay San Rafael is facing murder charges.

He was caught through the strength of an arrest warrant by operatives of the Tigbauan Municipal Police Station, 1st Iloilo Provincial Mobile Force Company, Iloilo Police Provincial Office’s Drug Enforcement Unit, and Regional Special Operations Group.

The accused was the primary suspect in the fatal shooting of Jobanie Triste, a kagawad of Barangay San Rafael, on October 24.

The suspect is now under police custody pending turnover to court concern.

No bail bond was recommended for his temporary liberty.

Murder charges were formally filed against the suspect on October 28.

On that same day, hevoluntarily surrendered to the Iloilo City Police Office. Because no arrest warrant was yet issued, he could not be detained; he was thus merely placed temporarily in the custody of a civilian.

During his surrender, he confessed to the killing, claiming self-defense.

Meanwhile, Police Regional Office director Brigadier General Jack L. Wanky lauded the swift action of the units involved in the operation.

“With the arrest of the accused, may justice be achieved by the victim’s family,” he added./PN
