MANILA – Aiza Maizo-Pontillas flashed her vintage form anew as the Petron Blaze Spikers cruised to a 25-21, 25-14, 25-20 win over Generika-Ayala Lifesavers in the 2019 Philippine Superliga Invitationals at the San Juan Arena.
The Passi City, Iloilo native unloaded 14 points to go along with 15 digs on Monday night while Negrense Bernadeth Pons finished with 14 markers.
With the win, the Blaze Spikers moved up to 2-0 in Pool B.
Frances Molina, Mary Remy Palma and Cherry Rondina combined for 18 markers while veteran Angel Legacion contributed 18 excellent sets.
Blaze Spikers was last year’s Superliga runner-up.
“Yung mga attacks nila kailangan maging ready both blockers and floor defense naming, at service pia riin,” said Blaze Spikers head coach Shaq Delos Santos. “Kailiangan improve pa nang improve and ma-maintain talaga namin ‘yung ganung klase ng laro.”
Meanwhile, reigning champion F2 Logistics Cargo Movers vented its ire on Marinerang Pilipina Lady Skippers, 25-14, 25-17, 25-11, to tie the Lifesavers in Pool B with 1-1 win-loss slate.
Victorinara Galang delivered 17 points off 14 kills and three blocks while Mary Joy Baron and Kim Dy chipped in 12 points apiece. Desiree Cheng added nine markers and 13 digs.
In the other match, Foton Tornadoes finally tasted a win. It dominated PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters, 25-21, 25-20, 25-18.
Ilongga Shaya Adorador paced the
assault with 15 points laced with nine excellent reception and six digs./PN
