MANILA – Ilongga star Aiza Maizo-Pontillas is not going anywhere. She renewed her contract with the Petron Blaze Spikers ahead of the 2019 Philippine Superliga season next month.

The Passi City, Iloilo native agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Blaze Spikers, which she helped to title finishes in the Grand Prix and All-Filipino Conference and runner-up in the Invitational Cup.

The 30-year-old former University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses opposite spiker had been with the Petron franchise since she first joined the Philippine SuperLiga in 2013.

Maizo-Pontillas, also a former mainstay in the national women’s volleyball team, then left the league to play in the Shakey’s V-League but returned to Petron for another tour of duty in 2016 until now.

The most awarded opposite spiker in the PSL with four, Maizo-Pontillas was also named Most Valuable Player once during 2017 All-Filipino Conference.

The Blaze Spikers, meanwhile, are raring to defend its Grand Prix crown in its annual staging. They acquired the services of American Stephanie Niemer and Kath Bell as their imports.

Adding firepower to its already star-studded roster, the Blaze Spikers also acquired the services of national team mainstay Dennise Lazaro, Anne Esguerra and Toni Rose Basas./PN
