MANILA – Ilongga volleyball star Aiza Maizo-Pontillas will remain with the Philippine Superliga (PSL) after agreeing to join the Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors ahead of the 2021 season.
In a social media announcement, the Lady Realtors announced their acquisition of the Passi City, Iloilo-native Maizo-Pontillas after her former team Petron Blaze Spikers decided to take a pandemic leave from PSL.
“The instruction from Sta. Lucia’s team owner was clear: Get someone who can score at will. And who fits that description to a T? None other than one of Philippine volleyball’s queens, Aiza Maizo-Pontillas!” the Lady Realtors said.
Lady Realtors’ team manager Von Mojado welcomed the acquisition of Maizo-Pontillas, a many-time national women’s volleyball team mainstay, as they hope to have a better showing in the upcoming PSL season.
“Alam naman natin what she brings to any team she’s in and this will be a very big boost para sa campaign namin this volleyball season,” said Mojado. “More than anything, I think you leadership nya in and out of the court ‘yung isa sa nilu-look forward namin. And here, she will have a reunion with her former teammates and friends na din.”
Maizo-Pontillas became the fourth Ilongga to join the Lady Realtors roster aside from ex-Central Philippine University players DM Demontano and Glaudine Trongcoso and former University of San Agustin volleybelle Jackie Estoquia.
The Ilongga, a former star of the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses, will also reunite with her former Blaze Spikers teammate Mika Reyes at the Lady Realtors camp.
The Lady Realtors is one of the three remaining clubs in the PSL with F2 Logistics Cargo Movers and Chery Tiggo. /PN
