MANILA – Passi City native Aby Maraño was named the new Philippine Superliga ambassador when the Grand Prix volleyball conference opened on Saturday at the San Juan Arena.
Due to her strong influence among the youth and deep love of the sport, the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers star was a unanimous choice to succeed Petron Blaze Spikers’ Mika Reyes.
Maraño was a perfect fit to become the league’s fourth ambassador after Gretchen Ho, Cha Cruz and Reyes, what with her growing fan base and dedication to volleyball, said Superliga president Ramon Suzara.
“Aby (Maraño) is very vocal and outspoken,” said Suzara. “Her influence, especially among the youth, is enormous, and she had repeatedly displayed her love for the sport and loyalty to the league.”
Maraño, a member of the national women’s team that campaigned in the recent AVC Asian Senior Women’s Championship, said she will do her best to fulfill the role.
“I really have a vocal personality, and I’m not afraid to speak my mind for as long as I am right,” Maraño said. “If the PSL image is at stake, no doubt, I will stand up and defend the league.”
“I want to thank the entire PSL organization for trusting me to be their ambassador,” said the Ilongga middle blocker. “This is another step for me to influence the youth and aspiring athletes to play their best and chase their dreams.”
Marano and Cargo Movers will open their campaign in the Grand Prix against Petron Blaze Spikers on Nov. 4 when the league stages its first Visayas game at the University of St. La Salle – Bacolod gym./PN
