PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan – Ilongga netters Althea Rose Martirez and Peebee Aguirre settled for a silver medal in the girls team tennis event of the Batang Pinoy National Finals 2019 at the Palawan National School Tennis Court here.
Martirez and Aguirre ended up with silver after losing to Del Monte, Bulacan in the finals on Tuesday night. Prior to that, the Ilongga pair defeated the squads from Davao City and La Carlota City.
Bacolod City’s Krisha Dedoyco Aguillon, meanwhile, fell short of her second gold medal in the event after finishing second in the girls 200 meter dash at the Speaker Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complex.
Aguillon, a standout of Bacolod Tay Tung High School, settled for a silver medal finish with 26.9 seconds, just behind Calamba City’s Erica Marie Ruto who ended the race at 26.1 seconds.
Negros Occidental’s Brineth Cupan fell short of landing a medal finish in the event after placing just fourth, while Aguillon’s teammate Aubrey Mae Mercado landed at seventh spot.
New Washington, Aklan’s Marc Angelo Daroy was also unsuccessful in attaining his second gold after finishing with just silver medal in boys 200 meter dash with 23.4 seconds. Ligao City’s Julius Ranosa bagged the gold in 23 seconds.
Victorias City’s Renzo Catulay and Bayawan City’s Kenth John Abilay had a silver and bronze medal finish, respectively, in boys 400 meter dash while Bacolod City’s Athena Rose Besana won a bronze medal in girls 400 meter hurdles.
In boys basketball, Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts kept its playoff hopes alive following a default victory yesterday over Pagadian, which backed out from the tournament.
Prior to that, the 2-2 Bacolod City representatives suffered back-to-back losses to Dasmariñas, Cavite (75-74) and Mariveles, Bataan (82-75). They are in a must-win situation against Antipolo City today./PN
