ILOILO – The ashes of slain overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Grace Prodigo-Cabrera are returning home today.
Cabrera was abducted by Hamas terrorists in Kibbutz Be’eri, Israel on Oct. 7.
The 45-year-old native of Barangay Burak, Maasin town was married to a resident of Apalit, Pampanga.
Cabrera’s mother, 72-year-old Paterna Prodigo of Barangay Burak, said the ashes will be brought to Pampanga by her other OFW daughter who survived the Hamas attack, Mary June Prodigo.
Mary June also worked as a caregiver in Kibbutz Be’eri.
“Mary June will depart from Israel by Sunday and arrive in the Philippines by Monday,” Paterna said in a Panay News interview on Friday afternoon, Nov. 3.
She added that her daughter’s remains were cremated for ease of repatriation.
Grace’s ashes will no longer be brought to Maasin. Instead, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) made it possible for the Prodigo family to be in Pampanga on Thursday night, Nov. 2.
“Indi na pagdal-on sa Iloilo. Bale diri na lang sa Pampanga ilubong. Kami na lang nga pamilya ang nagkadto giya sa Pampanga. Ginbuligan kami sang OWWA,” Paterna said.
As of this writing, there is no schedule yet for Grace’s burial rites which, according to the mother, would depend on Cabrera’s husband.
Cabrera, who worked in Israel for more than five years, is the fourth confirmed Filipino fatality by Hamas./PN
