MANILA – Petron Blaze Spikers kept their immaculate slate in the 2018 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference as they clobbered Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors 25-18, 27-25, 25-17 on Saturday night at the Caloocan Sports Complex.
Ilongga Aiza Maizo-Pontillas carried the fight for the Blaze Spikers with 13 points as they remained unbeaten in eight matches. Mary Remy Palma added 11 markers.
“It’s still anybody’s ballgame. We have to play our best against a winning team or a winless team,” said Blaze Spikers star Mika Reyes. “We were always told to never underestimate the opponent.”
The Blaze Spikers suffered some minor turbulence in the third set after easily winning the first two as the Lady Realtors put up a fight in the third frame as they saved five match points.
But that proved to be the last stand of the Lady Realtors as their star Jeanette Villareal committed a service error that sealed the victory for the Blaze Spikers, the defending champions.
In another game last year’s runner-up F2 Logistics Cargo Movers chalked up their sixth victory in eight matches after making a quick work of the Cocolife Asset Managers 25-12, 25-15, 25-17.
Michelle Morente stepped in for the resting Kianna Dy and led the Cargo Movers with 13 points off 10 attacks and three aces while Ilongga Aby Maraño added 12 markers, four of which came off blocks./PN
