MANILA ā University of the East Lady Warriors drew strength from Ma. Shaya Adorador to score 25-22, 22-25, 14-25, 25-20, 15-13 against Adamson Lady Falcons in the UAAP Season 80 womenās volleyball at the San Juan Arena.
Adorador, a native of Leon, Iloilo, finished with 11 points and had 13 digs on Sunday night to lead Lady Warriors (1-6), which ended a 13-game skid dating back the last season.
āWalang team na talagang mamaliitin. Wala nang ganoon sa UAAP. Kasi once na minaliit mo iyan, doon lalabas iyong laro ng isang team,ā said Adorador. āNag-step up din iyong mga teammates ko.ā
Meanne Mendrez also contributed 12 points while prolific libero Kath Arado had double-double 24 digs and 32 excellent receptions for Lady Warriors, which interim coach Rod Roque now handles after the resignation of Francis Vicente last week.
After splitting the first four sets, Lady Warriors had a strong start in the deciding set behind Adorador and Mendrez for an 11-5 lead. Lady Falcons responded with a run from Mylene Paat to come to within 10-13.
A block from Lady Warriors put the team at match point 14-11. Lady Falcons made its last push to come to within 13-14 but Adorador went for the winning point for Lady Warriors.
Paat finished with 23 points, including three blocks, while Negrense Christine Joy Soyud chipped in 11 points for Lady Falcons, which failed to build on its win over De La Salle University Lady Spikers last Wednesday./PN
