STEFANY Louise Sa-ac stamped class in girls swimming, capturing 11 medals during the 2018 Jesuit Athletic Meet that closed Tuesday at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu.
The Ilongga swimmer, representing Ateneo de lloilo-Santa Maria Catholic School Lady Dragons, was the event’s most bemedaled swimmer with seven gold, three silver and one bronze medals.
Sa-ac, a native of Jaro, Iloilo City, was no stranger to competitions. She has won multiple medals this year in the Palarong Pambansa and the National PRISSA Meet representing Western Visayas.
The Lady Dragons also captured gold medals in girls singles table tennis courtesy of Khryss Zyrene Espole of Guimbal, Iloilo and girls singles badminton from Mauregn Anne Sobretodo of Iloilo City.
In team events, Ateneo de Iloilo’s boys football, boys futsal and boys basketball squads struggled in the preliminary rounds and failed to advance to the Final Four round.
Ateneo de Iloilo president Fr. Joseph Haw said they were satisfied with their athletes’ performance in the five-day tournament and glad that the delegation built friendships with other student-athletes.
“My expectation is really that the student-athletes would become more aware that there’s a larger community beyond their school, that they have brothers and sisters from other Ateneos, and that they are one with sports,” Haw said.
The Jesuit Athletic Meet is a multisport event for the high school division/age group level involving 10 Jesuit schools from across the country. It is held every two years./PN
