MANILA – Ilongga Alexie Mae Caimoso Brooks has been picked to represent the Ateneo de Manila Track and Field team in the National Open 2018 being held in Ilagan City, Isabela.
The Leon, Iloilo-native Brooks, however, clarified that her stint with the Blue Eagles was only exclusive for the tournament and does not mean she is committing to study at Ateneo for college.
“The Ateneo track and field approached my coach (Noel Diel) during the Palarong Pambansa and they wanted me to represent them in this tournament,” Brooks told Panay News.
“I just want to clarify that my commitment with Ateneo is only during the National Open,” she added. “I have yet to decide on where will I study in college since I still have years left in high school.”
Brooks, a record-breaker in high jump at the 2018 Palarong Pambansa, has standing scholarship offers from two United States-based schools – University of Texas at El Paso and Trojan California University.
Aside from Ateneo, the Iloilo National High School student is also drawing interest from Manila-based schools University of Santo Tomas, University of the Philippines and De La Salle University.
At the National Open, Brooks is set to play in junior heptathlon alongside Malay, Aklan native Sheila Talja who has recently committed to play for Ateneo in UAAP athletics./PN
