ILOILO City – Ilongga climbers Kath Reyes and Resy Pison conquered new heights to come out on top in the women’s open and women’s novice categories, respectively, of Topout II: the 2nd Mayor Jed Patrick E. Mabilog Bouldering Competition held during the Iloilo Paraw Regatta Festival weekend at the Joe III Garden Beach Front, Villa Arevalo.
Bouldering is rock climbing stripped down to its raw essentials, shares the organizers of the event. Leaving behind ropes and harnesses, equipped with just climbing shoes, a participant’s challenge is to climb short but tricky bouldering “problems” (a route, or sequence of moves) using balance, technique, strength, and wits.
In the men’s open event, Mitch Phili of Dumaguete emerged as the champion, while Ilonggo Keith Estrella overcame the course to claim the men’s novice crown
