MANILA – National University Bullpups rode on the hot hands of Gerry Abadiano as it cruised to a 112-71 win over Adamson University Baby Falcons in UAAP Season 81 Juniors Basketball on Sunday at San Juan Arena.
The Iloilo City native torched his former school with career-high 29 points on top of five rebounds and two assists as the Bullpups surged to league-best 9-1 win-loss slate.
Not only did Abadiano and the Bullpups move closer to a Final Four seat, they also avenged their shock loss to the Baby Falcons in the first round of competition last December.
Just like in their first meeting, the Bullpups and the Baby Falcons were at close exchange in the first eight minutes until Abadiano spearheaded a huge 27-6 run for NU for a 43-20 lead.
The Bullpups were very much in control since then with Terrence Fortea and Carl Tamayo adding to the onslaught to reach its largest lead of the match at 44 in the final quarter.
Meanwhile, Negrense Mark Nonoy tallied his third triple-double of the season as the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs manhandled the University of the Philippines Integrated School, 80-65.
The La Carlota, Negros Occidental native Nonoy submitted 30 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists for the Tiger Cubs, which boosted its Final Four chances with its 5-5 win-loss slate./PN
