ILOILO City – Student athletes from Central Philippine University (CPU) achieved medal finishes for the WVPRISAA team in the ongoing PRISAA 2019 National Games in Davao City.
The CPU Golden Lions-backed WVPRISAA reclaimed the crown in tertiary men’s sepak takraw after scoring a close 2-1 victory over last year’s champion Davao in the gold medal game on Thursday night.
Frances Necole Caoyonan of CPU also claimed a gold medal. She defeated the Region 12 bet in the secondary girls table tennis finals.
Mary Grace Bubongan and Kimberly Solocasa won a silver in secondary girls doubles.
Not to be outdone was secondary girls swimmer Julie Mary Occeno of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University who captured four golds and one silver.
Stefany Louise Saac of Ateneo de Iloilo, meanwhile, bagged three golds and one silver in her events in secondary girls swimming.
Capiznon Kenneth Fresnido bagged his second gold medal. He ruled the tertiary men’s 9-ball event while Bacolodnon Hannah Delotavo also won her second gold in secondary girls 400 meter dash.
In the tertiary men’s basketball, the Negrense-laden WVPRISAA squad suffered a heart-breaking 75-73 loss to Calabarzon in the semifinals while the WVPRISAA secondary boys basketball team fall short to Pampanga in the quarterfinals./PN
