MANILA – Ilonggo boxer Jenel Lausa took home the GBO Asia Pacific bantamweight championship after a fifth round stoppage of Indonesian Carlos Lopez at the Rizal Park in Digos City, Davao del Sur.

It was the second professional boxing title of the Concepcion, Iloilo native. He previously held the Philippine Boxing Federation super bantamweight belt three years ago.

This was also the Ilonggo boxer’s third consecutive victory since making his return to boxing after spending a few years as a mixed martial arts fighter at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Lausa immediately pushed the pace in the opening round. He pummeled Lopez with combination hits before going for the kill in the fifth round by flooring his foe with a straight.

“All glory to God. I am glad that I was able to win the GBO championship,” Lausa said after the match. “I am also grateful to face a great fighter in Carlos Lopez.”

With the victory, the 31-year-old Lausa improved his unblemished slate of 10-0-1 win-loss-draw, including six stoppage wins.

Lopez’s slate, on the other hand, dropped to 28-10-0, with nine knockout wins./PN
