MANILA – Filipino mixed martial arts fighter Robin Catalan aims to bounce back from defeat when he faces Thai Kritsada Kongsrichai in ONE: Iron Will tonight at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Ilonggo Catalan said he will not be aiming at revenge on Kongsrichai who defeated his brother Rabin late last year but would instead show his own talent against the wrestling champion.
“This is not revenge. For me, it’s pure business. This is my career. I will fight to get the victory,” Catalan said. “I will just do my job and my best against him.”
He added: “I believe my family will be proud of me if I get the win. I know he is a strong opponent, and I will do everything in my power to beat him.”
Catalan also said he knows he is going up against a rising talent with impeccable grappling.
“This will be a good match because win or lose, I am going to give it everything I’ve got and more,” he said. “The difference will be how I apply my new skills against him. I am definitely happy to face a hometown hero like him. It challenges me.”
Catalan currently owns a record of six wins and three losses, which includes two wins by submission and two by knockout.
In his last bout, he dropped a TKO loss to former champion Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke.
Aside from Catalan, four other Filipino MMA fighters are set to compete are Richard Corminal (against Garry Tonon), Jeremy Miado (vs Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke), Angelie Sabnal (vs Rika Ishige), and Kaji Ebin (vs Sunoto)./PN
