ILOILO β Ilonggo chess players topped the 2nd Jay Hinolan Open and Kiddies Chess Tournament for a Cause held recently at GT Town Center in Pavia, Iloilo.
Kurt Kevin Ladot emerged the champion in kiddies category (14 years old and under), with Fern Albert Falle, Kith Haniel Magoliman, Neilstin Gallenero, Queen Rose Pamplona and Gil Casa, Jr. finishing behind.
Receiving special awards were King Lanz Pamplona as the top under-12 player, Ruslan Pamplona as top under-10 player, and Thomas Israel Trugo as top under-8 player.
The champion received P3,000 prize while second to sixth placers received P2,000; P1,000; P700; P500 and P300, respectively.
Top under-12, under-10 and under-8 players had P300 each.
International Master Joel Pimentel Jr., meanwhile, ruled the open category with National Master Cesar Mariano, Bryle Arellano, Philgymn Villajuan, Ellan Asuela and Karlo Britanico finishing behind.
Jovelyn Sepanton was hailed as the top under-20 player; Pray Johann Villaruz as top under-18 player and Ivan Leonard Calaor as top under-16 player. Jomir Mirasol and Fional Geeweneth Guirhem was top senior and top female, respectively.
The open category champion took home the top prize of P6,000 while second to sixth placers had P4,000; P2,000; P1,000; P700; and P500, respectively.
