Ilonggo Cuello, Negrense Jaro return to ring on March 8

Sonny Boy Jaro and Denver Cuello

ILONGGO Denver Cuello and Negrense Sonny Boy Jaro are set to make their boxing return in the “Return of the Champions” card on March 8 at the Angono Rizal Gymnasium.

Cuello – a Cabatuan, Iloilo native – will be stepping inside the ring for the first time since 2015 when he battles Indonesian fighter Jack Amisa.

The former WBC silver minimumweight champion said he is more than ready for his boxing return against Amisa after his impressive boxing career was halted by a shoulder injury he sustained while fighting for a world championship six years ago.

“I am nearing my peak form. In fact I have started practicing for this fight last December,” Cuello told Panay News. “I am happy that I am given another opportunity to fight again and have another shot at winning a world championship.”

The 32-year-old Cuello will be entering the ring with an impressive 36-5-6 win-loss-draw ring record, including 24 stoppage wins, while Amisa has 21-45-2 boxing slate, with 14 knockout victories.

Jaro, on the other hand, is set to end his one-year hiatus from boxing when he tangles with Indonesian fighter Frans Damur Palue in the co-main event.

The 36-year-old Silay City, Negros Occidental native – a former WBC flyweight champion – will parade a 44-14-5 win-loss-draw ring record, including 31 stoppage victories, while Palue totes a 15-21-3 boxing slate, with 10 knockout wins.

The boxing card dubbed as “Return of the Champions” is presented by Highland and DMAD International Promotions in coordination with the Angono, Rizal local government./PN
