MANILA – Dancers from the Matias Balbastro Dance Academy-Philippines bagged 10 medals in the 20th Soulcup Korea Open Online Dancesport championship held over the weekend.
Joemel Yap Magallanes bannered the Matias Balbastro-mentored squad with his four gold medals from the WCDA U16, Pre-Amateur Male, Under 16 Male Chacha, Rumba (CR), and Under 16 Male Chacha, Rumba, Jive (CRJ) categories.
He also received the $100 cash prize from tournament organizer Wook Lee after ruling the Under 16 Latin dance category.
Dana Angelica Galfo captured two gold medals in the WCDA Under 20 and Pre-Amateur Female Chacha, Salsa, Rumba, Jive (CSRJ) and a silver medal in the Under 20 Female Chacha, Salsa, Jive (CSJ). A $100 cash prize was given to her after dominating the Under 20 Latin category.
Furthermore, Zoe Alexandria Lanceta of the Western Visayas State University netted gold in Under 12 Female while settling for silver and bronze in the WCDA under 12 (CRJ) and Under 12 Female Chachacha (CCC), respectively. She also received a $100 prize.
Leanne Reigh Lanceta, meanwhile, occupied the fifth spot in Under 20 Female (CRJ), the sixth spot in Under 20 Female (CSRJ).
“I just want to thank the Lord since hindi man gid kami pinabayaan despite all the adversities these past few weeks in preparation for this event,” Balbastro wrote on his Facebook account.
On the other hand, Antiqueño Kristiane Capatan netted four gold medals in WCDA Under 12 CRJ, Under 12 Latin Chacha, Under 12 Latin Chacha-Rumba, and Under 12 Latin CJ.
He had two silver medals in the Under 12 Latin Rumba and Under12 Latin Jive categories. He was also a recipient of the $100 cash prize for his gold medal finish in Latin CRJ./PN
