MANILA – The dream of cager Joshua Devara to make it to the professional ranks goes on after recently agreeing to join the Enderun College Titans men’s basketball team.
Devara, a native of Iloilo City native, is grateful for the Titans’ opportunity, as it may serve as a stepping stone toward realizing his dream of playing in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) someday.
“Since I started playing basketball when I was in Grade 2, I have already committed myself to reach my dreams of becoming a PBA player in the future,” Devara said in an interview with Enderun Athletics Facebook page.
“Understanding and committing to my dreams are vital as I know that I need to undergo lots of different circumstances and a number of ramifications that will trigger the improvement of my skills so long before I achieve success,” he added.
Devara was a former standout of Colegio de San Jose in Iloilo City before being tapped to play for Hope Christian High School in Manila, where he won several championships.
“Hardships do not put an end to my goal as I know that whatever path I take, it will direct me to where I want me to be with the way I worked hard for,” the Ilonggo continued.
Aside from Bacolod City native Leonard Mustre, son of former San Miguel Beermen player Mike Mustre, Devara is the Titans’ second Western Visayas-based player.
John Matthew Manalang, previously of Technological Institute of the Philippines, Tristan Charles Bradley of Far Eastern University, and Dustin Dumana of De La Salle-Zobel are the Titans’ other offseason recruits.
Holdovers for the Enderun basketball team were shooter Francisco Tancioco, Ivorian center Pierre-Marie Kouakou, Joshua Balankig, Joshiel Gastador, Brian Cabagnot, Marlon Mahilum, and Roby Castro.
The Titans are aiming to improve their runner-up finish in the 19th National Athletic Association of Schools and Colleges Championship two years ago, where they lost to St. Clare College of Caloocan Saints./PN
