MANILA – Ilonggo guard Clint Doliguez is on the move after playing a conference in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) as he will be traded by the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters to NorthPort Batang Pier.
In a trade deal pending of PBA Commissioner’s Office’s approval, Doliguez and forward Sidney Onwubere will be shipped to the Batang Pier for Bradwyn Guinto.
Doliguez, who was selected sixth overall by the Elasto Painters during the 2019 PBA Rookie Draft, averaged 4.1 points and 1.1 rebounds in his limited playing time.
Doliguez was a former standout of Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix in high school before moving to Manila with Ateneo de Manila University in the University Athletics Association of the Philippines and San Beda University in the National Collegiate Athletics Association.
Doliguez will join the crowded Batang Pier backcourt that features fellow Ilonggo Juan Paolo Taha, Bacolodnon LA Revilla, Robert Bolick, Garvo Lanete, Nico Elorde, Renzo Subido, and Jonathan Grey.
Onwubere’s detachment from the Rain or Shine also came as a surprise after submitting career averages 5.7 points and 3.5 rebounds during the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup.
Onwubere, a former Emilio Aguinaldo College standout, also has to fight for minutes at the Batang Pier joining fellow forwards Sean Anthony, Kevin Ferrer, Kelly Nabong, Sean Manganti, and Jervy Cruz.
Guinto, on the other hand, is a welcome addition for the Painters as he will add heft and deft to their frontcourt manned by Beau Belga, Jewel Ponferrada, Norbert Torres, and Rashleigh Rivero.
The six-foot-six Guinto just recovered from a knee injury, but was good enough to play in nine games for the Batang Pier last season, when he averaged 2.2 points and 1.7 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Panay News learned from a source that TNT Tropang Giga is in talks with Blackwater Elite for a trade to re-acquire the services of veteran guard Celedonio Trollano./PN
