ILOILO City – Devotees in vibrant energy and festive spirit joined the annual religious motorcade of Señor Sto. Niño de Cebu on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 24.
The 56-year-old “Golden Boy,” the replica of the Sto. Niño de Cebu brought to Iloilo in 1967, was carried through seven districts of the city.
Sto. Niño images of the locals received spiritual blessings as the procession passed.
Motorcade route started from San Jose de Placer Parish Church, then proceeded at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand, took a left at Macario Peralta Street, and a right to JM Basa Street.
The route then continued to Iznart Street, Arroyo Fountain, and onto Bonifacio drive.
From Forbes Bridge, the procession turned right to Huervana Street (La Paz Market), straight to La Paz Plaza, then left to Jereos Street (in front of La Paz church), left to Huervana Extension, right to Burgos Street, straight to Commission Civil, then to Rizal Street (Jaro Plaza), left to Rizal Street, onto EL 98, Taft North, Aleosan Street, left to CF Perfecto Street (in front of Mandurriao church), left to R. Mapa Street, onto Tabucan bridge, Locsin Street, Baluarte Road, Rizal Street, Ledesma Street, right to Iznart Street, left to Gen. Blanco (Sta. Maria church), onto Ortiz Street, right to Rizal to Gen. Hughes Street, left to Sto. Rosario Street, and finally, back to San Jose Parish Placer.
A fluvial and solemn foot procession of the Sto. Niño image will be held on Friday, Jan. 26, at 1 p.m. at the Iloilo River and Downtown area.
The grand religious sadsad on 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, and the Concelebrated High Mass on 6 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28, will take place at San Jose de Placer Parish Church./PN
