Ilonggo farmers to receive cash aid from gov’t

ILOILO CITY – A total of 46,516 farmers in Iloilo province will receive financial assistance from the Department of Agriculture amid the COVID-19 global pandemic.

In a media release, DA in Western Visayas regional director Remelyn Recoter said farmers tilling 0.5 to two hectares of land can avail of the cash subsidy amounting to P5,000.

“They were identified based on the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture,” she said.

Recoter said the beneficiaries will be given a transaction code and they can claim the money through remittance centers.

She added that the fund was already downloaded to 33,000 beneficiaries through direct cash transfer.

Meanwhile, Iloilo province is also a recipient of the seed reserved with low germination assistance of DA Region 6.

According to the agency, the province also received a huge allocation of the rice resiliency program fund for Western Visayas. Of the P1 billion fund, roughly P430 million or 40 percent went to Iloilo. (with a report from PIA-Iloilo/PN)
