MANILA – Ilonggo rookie forward Michael Jay Javelosa is now part of Terrafirma Dyip’s 3×3 basketball squad.

Javelosa was one of the six players rostered by the Dyip in the Philippine Basketball Association’s (PBA) soon-to-be-launched 3×3 basketball tournament.

The Ilonggo player was selected first overall by the Dyip in the fourth round of the PBA Season 46 rookie draft.

The 6-foot-5 Javelosa was grateful to become part of Terrafirma’s 3×3 squad as he looks forward to jumpstarting his PBA career.

“For me, it is ok naman even if I start at the 3×3 tournament since PBA pa rin naman ‘yun,” Javelosa told Panay News. “It is still a good exposure for me and to also improve my game.”

Javelosa, son of Iloilo United Royals team owner JJ Javelosa at the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), previously suited up for the Ateneo Grade School in elementary and Reedley International School in high school.

While in Reedley, he was part of the Philippines’ 16 under and 18 under. He also played for the national team that played in the Adidas Nation in Long Beach, California.

He had a stint with the Ateneo Blue Eagles and has played in MPBL for Navotas Uni-Pak Sardines before moving to his hometown team Iloilo in 2019.

Also part of the Raymond Tiangco-mentored Terrafirma 3×3 basketball roster were Javelosa’s fellow rookie draftees Dhon Reverente and Emman Custodio and PBA free agents Roider Cabrera, Matthew Salem, and Jebb Bulawan.

The PBA’s 3×3 tournament is eyed to start a month after the league’s 2021 PBA Philippine Cup conference, which will possibly begin in late June or early July./PN
