ROXAS City – Peter Traviña of NinjaXJbl showed anew that he is one of the finest three-point gunners in Region 6 by topping the ODM x Wilson Sports PH 3-Point Shootout on Sunday at the IIC Court here.
Traviña, a standout from Western Institute of Technology, clinched the crown after scoring 19 points in the finals round of the event that was participated by around 70 three-point slingers in Panay Island.
For ruling the one-day competition organized by Wilson Basketball and On D’ Move Sportswear, the Tigbauan, Iloilo gunner took home a cash prize of P5,000, a basketball and a brand new Adidas shoes.
Finishing behind Traviña is Aron Valle with 17 points, followed by RJ Deseo and Burnok Olendo with 15 markers apiece, Renato Japsay with 11 points and Jasper Daliva with eight points.
On his way to the championship round, Traviña scored 14 points in the elimination round before pouring in 18 three-pointers made in the semifinals to become one of the six finalists.
Other notable participants in the three-point competition were former Mapua Red Robins guard Dan Arches, many-time three-point champion Inno Miclat, Randy Binga-an and Rizjohn Legaspi.
According to Porsche Bernil of Tigbauan Ninjas, this was Traviña’s second competitive three-point scoring championship after also topping the JB ABL three-point contest last year.
“As his trainer, I am not surprised with his strong showing in the ODMxWilson 3-Point Contest. He is one of the finest three-point slingers in the Panay area,” Bernil said in an overseas chat with Panay News on Monday.
“I always believe that he has the talent and potential to keep in step in the big leagues. In fact, we are planning to have him work out with some of the colleges and universities in Manila,” she added.
The three-point shooting competition was just the latest sporting event by the Wilson Basketball and On D’ Move Sportswear after reviving the Wilson Sports Philippines 3×3 basketball tournament recently here./PN
