Ilonggo taekwondo jins and wrestlers shine in WVRAA

KALIBO, Aklan – Team Iloilo had a splash of gold medals in the secondary and elementary categories of taekwondo in the 2023 WVRAA Meet on Sunday at the Aklan Catholic College Gym here.

Team Iloilo had a splash of golds in secondary boys kyorugi from Anton James Palmes (finweight),Neilin Samson (welterweight), Jhed Morata (middleweight), Justin Diasnes (lightweight), Felix Perez (bantamweight) and Kyle Chin (featherweight).

Jins from secondary girls kyorugi in Sophia Grace Go (middleweight), Sheine Nicole de Asis (lightweight), Mary Noelle Alim (bantamweight), Feri Carmel Perez (flyweight) and Hannah Dello (finweight) also produced a gold each.

The Iloilo City-based taekwondo jins also secured gold medals from elementary girls kyorugi athletes in Czharina Morris, Leighton Paragas, Sophia Marie Bautista and Kristelle Glaze Alim.

Team Iloilo also got poomsae gold medals from secondary boys Airon Aguana, Jesseray Frantilla and Cyd Edryc Esmana, elementary athletes Andria Palabrica, Xian Bayasca, Charee Genecala and Viene Marie Ducala.

Yohance Managan, meanwhile, captured two kyorugi golds for Negros Occidental jins, while Dexie Leen Chavez, Joshua Deita and Airies Yanson also captured a gold each from kyorugi, while Lycah Segura bagged a gold from poomsae.

Team Iloilo also continued its gold medal haul in athletics with Jhon Jose Dugan capturing two golds in elementary boys 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash, while Christian Hubag also captured two in elementary boys 800 meter and 1500 meter run.

Also with golds in elementary boys were Jumel Dichosa (long jump), Kris Louie Dela Pena (triple jump), Kim Justin Gardose (110 meter hurdles), Elementary boys 4×400 meter relay team and Elementary boys 4×100 meter relay team.

Other gold winners were Ma. Jerlyn Ariego (200-meter dash), Karen Bala-an (800-meter run), Nineteen Lasap (400-meter hurdles), Jazzybelle Mesterio (triple jump) and Elementary girls 4×400 meter relay team.

Jhon Masuhol, meanwhile, delivered two golds in secondary boys 800-meter and 1500-meter runs, while Joemari Palmes (javelin throw), Mayly Padilla (pole vault), Earl Servano (100-meter dash) and Secondary boys 4×400 meter relay team also had one each.

Also with golds were secondary girls athletes Avegail Beliran (javelin throw), Irene Medina (800-meter run), Shane Bullos (100-meter hurdles) and Secondary girls 400×100 meter relay team.

Team Iloilo also made a splash in wrestling with golds from Queenie Ritas, Princess Rodinas, Rodjielyn Banate, Mary Grace Abello, Novelyn Lavilla, Sheyannah Bantiling, Erika Hilado and Kathlene Garalda in secondary girls.

Ilonggo secondary boys wrestlers Ken Abenir, Cris Penaredondo, Kenneth Craws, Rey Mark Rapista, Crisanto Decena and Emanuel Pepito also added a gold medals each for the delegation.

Iana Sotaridona, meanwhile, delivered two golds for Team Iloilo in Chess after ruling the elementary girls standard individual and elementary girls standard team with Andrea Balbontin.

Vaugh Oberio also has two golds in elementary boys standard individual and standard team with Rolando Pamplona III, while Neilstin Gallenero and Kurt Ladon won a gold in secondary boys standard team.

In Pencak Silat, Team Iloilo got two golds from Froilan Tabucaran in secondary boys tunggal and tanding Class E and one each from Trixie Nicola Taclahan in secondary girls tanding Class D, Viyan Joy Tan secondary girls tanding Class B and Sarah Tajapal in secondary girls tanding Class A./PN
