Ilonggo Taha, Bacolodnons Montalbo, Chua join PBA virtual tourney

MANILA – Ilonggo Juan Paolo Taha of NorthPort Batang Pier and Bacolodnons Kib Montalbo of TNT KaTropa and Justin Chua of Phoenix Fuel Masters will participate in the Philippine Basketball Association 3-point Shootout Charity Virtual Tournament.

This tournament-for-a-cause features 24 players from the league’s 12-member ball clubs, who will battle each other using the mobile app game PBA Slam. The top prize of P250,000 will go to the charity selected by the winning team.

Teaming up with Taha at Batang Pier is Kevin Ferrer; Montalbo is to be joined by Lervin Flores at KaTropa while Chua teams up with fellow center Dave Marcelo for Fuel Masters.

Other delegates include Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings’ Mark Caguioa and Scottie Thompson; San Miguel Beermen’s June Mar Fajardo and Von Pessumal; Magnolia Hotshots’ Paul Lee and Mon Abundo; Alaska Aces’ Mike DiGregorio and Robbie Herndon; Blackwater Elite’s Diego Dario and Chris Bitoon; Terra Firma Dyip’s Roosevelt Adams and Bonbon Batiller; NLEX Road Warriors’ Philip Paniamogan and Kenneth Ighalo; Rain or Shine Elasto Painters’ Rey Nambatac and Adrian Wong; and Meralco Bolts’ Baser Amer and Nard John Pinto.

The event, which started last August 28, takes place every Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Fans may catch it live on PBA Rush at 7 p.m. and on www.pba.ph at 8 p.m.

Teams are divided into two groups of six. The elimination round pits players from the same teams against each other. They will play four rounds with a time limit of 1 minute 30 seconds per round. The winner advances to the six-team semifinals.

Already qualified for the semis are Herndon, Thompson, Bitoon, Abundo, and Ferrer.

The same process will be used in the semis, with the three winners advancing to the finals./PN
