MANILA – Ilonggo Ferdinand “Thirdy” Ravena III and the San-en NeoPhoenix scored a repeat win over the Fighting Eagles Nagoya, 90-62, to stretch their winning streak in the Japan B.League Division 1 at the Toyohashi City Gymnasium.
The former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles star finished with six points, four rebounds, two steals, and an assist as he only played for 21 minutes with San-en already ahead by as much as 30 points in the third quarter.
Coty Clarke led the way with 25 points, including five triples, David Dudzinski added 21 markers, while Yante Maten hauled 12 rebounds to go with eight points as the NeoPhoenix improved to a 27-4 win-loss slate.
“We played tough defense against Nagoya, and we were able to approach the game with a defensive mindset, so I think it was good,” said NeoPhoenix head coach Atsushi Ohno.
Sean O’mara finished with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Aaron Henry and Hiromu Nakamura had 12 and 10, respectively, for Nagoya (14-17), which also lost to San-en on Saturday evening, 79-66.
Kai Sotto and the Yokohama B-Corsairs (14-16), on the other hand, scored a bounce back victory against the Osaka Evessa (14-17), 97-91, over at the Ookini Arena Maishima.
The 7-foot-3 Filipino center played for 11 minutes off the bench and finished with seven points, three rebounds, and three blocks as Yokohama recovered from their 100-89 loss to Osaka last Saturday.
Yuki Kawamura exploded for 31 points, including two treys, to go with seven rebounds and six assists, Josh Scott added 15 markers, while Kai King contributed 13 markers for the B-Corsairs.
Bobby Ray Parks Jr.’s paltry offensive game hardly mattered as the Nagoya Diamond Dolphins scored a 94-82 revenge win over the Seahorses Mikawa at the Okazaki Central Park General Gymnasium.
The former TNT Tropang Giga guard finished with just three points despite playing for almost 16 minutes to go with three assists and one steal as the Diamond Dolphins hiked their record to 18-13./PN
