MANILA – San Miguel Beermen is not yet done wheeling and dealing ahead of the 2019 PBA season as it is set to re-acquire Ronald Tubid in a one-on-one trade with the Columbian Dyip.
In a player-swap transaction that was consummated on late Monday afternoon, the Iloilo City-native Tubid is headed back to the four-time defending All-Filipino Cup champions in exchange for Keith Agovida, who is returning to the Dyip.
The Beermen homecoming of Tubid came almost a year after he was packaged with Jay-R Reyes and Rashawn McCarthy to the Dyip for the 2017 PBA Rookie Draft No. 1 pick, which turned out to be Filipino-German center Christian Standhardinger.
The 37-year-old Tubid, a former standout of the University of the East Red Warriors, was one of the former key players of Beermen and was part of the team’s five championships from 2013 to 2017.
The Tubid-Agovida trade was one of the three transactions completed by the Beermen the past few days after failing to select a quality rookie during the 2018 PBA Rookie Draft last Sunday.
Beermen has acquired Terrence Romeo from TNT KaTropa for Brian Heruela, David Semerad and two future first round picks, while also getting Ilonggo Paul Zamar from Blackwater Elite for two second rounders.
On the part of Agovida, he is expected to gain playing time with his return to the Dyip after rarely seeing action in his two year stint with the Beermen that was spiced up by three championships.
Agovida had an impressive career with the Dyip, then known as Mahindra Floodbuster, when he was traded to the Beermen in November, 2016 for Ryan Arana.
PARKS, AMER, CRUZ TRADING PLACES
Meanwhile, TNT KaTropa, Meralco Bolts and Blackwater Elite are working on a trade centered on Ilonggo Jericho Cruz, Brian Heruela, Baser Amer and rookie Bobby Ray Parks Jr.
Based on the initial negotiation, Parks is on his way to the Bolts, while Amer is headed to KaTropa and Cruz and Heruela to the Elite.
Bolts head coach Norman Black has long wanted to get the services of Parks, who is his godson.
Amer, meanwhile, could serve as backup to Jayson Castro at KaTropa after kicking out Terrence Romeo.
Cruz will return to the Elite, his team when he was still playing in PBA D-League, same goes with Heruela, who started his PBA career with Blackwater./PN
