Ilonggos bag golds in nat’l athletics open

MANILA – Three Ilonggo tracksters have captured gold medal each in the 2019 Ayala Philippine Athletics Championships on Wednesday at City of Ilagan Sports Complex in Ilagan, Isabela.

Manuel Lasangue Jr., a Tigbauan, Iloilo native, captured the gold in men’s high jump at 193 meters, beating National University’s Alberto Ubando and Ronito Tamayosa of EARIST.

Calinog, Iloilo native Edgar Jan Carado – representing the Adamson University – bagged the gold medal in boys 400-meter hurdles after beating Jerico Pacis of University of the East and Romel Bautista of University of Santo Tomas.

Also winning gold medal was Ilonggo Vince Jayson Buhayan in the 100-meter boys event, while Negrense Louielyn Pamatian of UST clinch a gold medal in the women’s 800-meter dash.

Pamatian, a Bago City native, also captured a silver medal in the 4×100 meter relay along with UST teammates Alyssa Andrade, Rosnani Ramos Pamaybay and Tris Janario.

Bernalyn Bejoy and Trexie dela Torre of Team Negros Occidental, meanwhile, delivered a silver medal each with the former having a chance to qualify to the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

Bejoy finished with silver medal in the girls 400-meter hurdles event in 62.14 seconds behind gold medal winner Riza Jane Dupalco of the University of the Philippines (61.53). Ellah Therese Sirilan of University of the East is at third (64.20).

Dela Torre, on the other hand, also settled for a silver medal in the girls 100-meter dash with 12.74 seconds, behind University of the Philippines’ Samantha Limos (12.57). At third is Diana Hurano of City of Ilagan (12.84).

Victorias City’s Jessa Mae Jarder UST also won a silver in women’s 400-meter hurdles, while Aklanon Maria Lyka Sarmiento of Adamson University got a bronze medal in 10 k women’s event./PN
